Responding to the RAC's survey on the increasing number of children convicted for driving without insurance (subs: released Wednesday 30 March), Neil Drane, Head of Enforcement Services at the MIB (Motor Insurers' Bureau) said: 

"The RAC has usefully highlighted the problem of young drivers and particularly males driving uninsured, which our current campaign Gone in Seconds with its video on YouTube also reflects. In fact we estimate there are 300,000 17-29 year olds currently driving uninsured and they are firmly in our sights.

"However, we would question drivers' perception that there is little chance law breakers will be caught. In 2015 we supported police forces to take over 121,000 uninsured vehicles off our roads and this year we have already seen 26 per cent more vehicles seized by the end of February 2015.

"Ever improving technology, combined with a motor insurance database that is cross referenced with DVLA licence data, means it is just a matter of time before you are caught, whatever your age."
