National uninsured driving campaign advert launched at Odeon Birmingham
  • Advert part of national campaign to tackle rise in uninsured driving
  • Birmingham has nine of the UK’s top 12 postal districts for uninsured drivers

A cinema advert aimed at uninsured drivers was launched in Birmingham on Friday 11 September as part of a national campaign by the MIB (Motor Insurers’ Bureau).

Ashton West, Chief Executive, said: “Our `Gone in seconds` video is being released as the number of uninsured drivers on UK roads is on the rise. The figure had dropped from an estimated 2million in 2005 to 1million by the end of 2014.

“We chose Birmingham for the launch because the latest figures show it has nine of the top 12 postal districts in the UK for uninsured driving and its young population mirrors the campaign’s target audience of 17 to 29 year olds, who make up 30 per cent of the uninsured driving population.”

MIB works closely with the Central Motorway Police Group to tackle uninsured driving across the West Midlands. As part of the launch, Ashton attended a police operation close to junction 1 of the M5 where three vehicles were seized in just one hour for motoring offences including driving uninsured. A digivan showing the new cinema advert was present.

West Midlands drivers can find out more about the campaign and see the video at www.goneinseconds.org.uk or by following on Twitter @DriveInsured #goneinseconds or www.facebook.com/driveinsured.
