Your insurance history

If you have lost your certificate of insurance or want to know what information is held on Navigate - the new home for data from the Motor Insurance Database (MID). This data is held for 7 years.

 

Current insurance for another individual

If you need to confirm the insurance details of a deceased person, or on behalf of an individual after gaining their written consent, we can provide you with the current insurance details as showing on Navigate. This will allow you to contact the insurers and inform them of the circumstances. This data is held for 7 years.

Your claims history

The Claims and Underwriting Exchange (CUE), is the central database of motor, home, personal injury and industrial illness incidents reported by insurers which may give rise to a claim. This data is held for 6 years from the date the claim was closed.

Your MIB claims history

The Motor Insurers' Bureau (MIB) is here to compensate victims who have been involved in accidents with a driver who is not insured, or who leaves the scene. If you have been involved in an accident which is or has been handled by the MIB within the last 7 years, you may request this data from us. This data is held for 7 years from the date the claim was closed.

Your MIAFTR data

The Motor Insurance Anti-Fraud and Theft Register (MIAFTR) database contains records of written off and stolen vehicles. If you have made a claim which has resulted in a written off or stolen vehicle, a record may exist on the MIAFTR database.This information can be released to you however, to check if a specific vehicle is listed as written off or stolen which you were not the owner of at the time of the claim, you will need to carry out an independent Vehicle Provenance Check.

No Claims Discount Database

The Motor Insurers’ Bureau is the Data Controller for the MIB Hub No Claims Discount (NCD). The personal data received by MIB originates from the insurer or other authorised third parties.

Your MIB Services search history

MIB Services which accesses the askCUE PI (personal injury) data is an enquiry service which allows approved organisations to check records held on the CUE PI database before they submit a personal injury claim through the Claims Portal. Once a check is made, the requestor is only provided with relevant loss dates. If you have been a claimant in an accident claim, your details may have been used throughout the claim process and you can request this information from us. This data is held for 3 years.

As a data controller, MIB takes information security and data privacy very seriously.   1. How do I request my information?

    If you would like information from more than one database, or if none of the forms relate to the information you require, you can write to or email the DSAR Department who would be happy to assist you:

  2. When will I receive my information?

    You will receive the information you requested within one month of MIB receiving your request although should we require additional information from you the response time may be extended. If further information is requested, you will be contacted without delay by the relevant department processing your submission.

    If the request is complex or involves large volumes of data, the response time may be extended by a further two months. If that is the case, we will contact you to inform you of the extension and the reason behind this decision. If we are unable to provide you with all or some of the information you requested, we will inform you of the reasons behind our decision.

  3. How much does it cost?

    In most cases, your information will be provided to you free of charge, however, if the request becomes unreasonable or excessive we reserve the right to charge a fee. If this is applicable we will contact you when we receive your request.

  4. What if I am not happy with the information I received?

    If you are not entirely satisfied with the information provided to you please contact the relevant department in the first instance who will assist with your concerns.

  5. What should I do if the information received is incorrect?

    Please note MIB only holds data. If any of the data you have received from us is incorrect your first course of action will be to inform the insurer or organisation who has provided the data to us.
