Improving data quality

Replatforming MID and MIAFTR - phases 1 and 2 - is just the beginning for our Navigate programme.

Our vision for Navigate is to give customers what they expect and deserve from modern digital services – real-time and self-service capability, comprehensive search functionality, and intuitive fraud detection.

But without high quality data underpinning it, the benefit of Navigate is compromised. That's why improving the data quality is a key strategic goal for MIB in the next few years.

So we're working to build on the capabilities of this innovative, scalable foundation to support the industry's future needs.

Together with our members we'll improve the quality of information available and how we can incorporate new capabilities and services into Navigate.

Industry Data Working Group

Our Industry Data Working Group, brings together experts to help shape the development of a new set of data standards for motor policy and claims data, for the collective benefit of the industry and partners.

The group is working to develop options, assess the impact on the industry and put forward recommendations to the MIB Board.

The group consists of representatives from both technical and operational functional leads, such as underwriting, claims, finance, data and analytics.

Members represent a broad spectrum of perspectives from across the industry.

It plays a key role in developing new standards, but it's also essential that all organisations have the opportunity to contribute to this important work, so we'll also be seeking input from across the industry to support the activities of the Industry Data Working Group.

If you have any questions on the role of the group, please contact engagement@mib.org.uk

March 2025 update

The Industry Data Working Group (IDWG) met in March to continue its work to improve data quality, starting with Navigate’s motor insurance policy data.

The group brings together experts from across the insurance industry who are helping to shape the development of a new set of data standards for motor policy and claims data in the platform. Comprising technical and operational specialists from areas such as underwriting, claims, finance, data and analytics, the IDWG represents a broad spectrum of perspectives.

The event was the group’s first in-person meeting of 2025 and members continued their work to define the next phase of developing data quality rules

In 2024 with the support of the IDWG we developed and ran 41 business data quality rules against 42 million Navigate policies, totalling more than 1.5 billion checks.

This year we’ll begin reporting against those rules as a way of highlighting strong data governance and to understand the level of work required to further improve data quality across the industry.

Without high quality data, the benefits of Navigate won't be maximised, so we’re grateful for the hard work of IDWG members who continue to give their time to this important work. Thank you to Polaris UK Limited for hosting the meeting.
